Did Practice Match Expose India’s Downfall?

Although India managed to win the practice Test match against Sri Lanka’s Junior side by 6 wickets, the game felt like a neck-and-neck battle. While Sri Lanka has no big names on their side, India played this game with a full-fledged senior side and still couldn’t get Sri Lanka Cricket XI in either innings.
Chasing 207 to seal a six-wicket win in Colombo. Yashasvi Jaiswal bounced back from his first-innings duck with a lively 61 off 46 balls, while captain Shubman Gill returned from a finger injury to score 44.
The real surprise came late: Mohammed Siraj walked in and smashed 32 off just 15 balls, including three sixes in a row, to finish the chase with a flourish. Earlier, Devdutt Padikkal’s unbeaten 142 had anchored India’s first innings. A handy confidence boost for the visitors before the first Test in Galle on August 15. Read more

India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh is suddenly looking uncertain again. The BCCI is preparing to ask the Indian government for clearance before sending the team across the border, saying it cannot make the call alone.
Bangladesh has kept August 29 to September 15 open for six matches: three ODIs and three T20Is. But recent political tensions between the neighbours have complicated things, with Sheikh Hasina’s press conference in New Delhi adding fresh strain.
The tour was originally planned for 2025 before being pushed to 2026. Now, both boards are talking, but the final word rests with New Delhi. If permission doesn’t arrive, India could instead host Afghanistan for three matches in a short limited-overs series during the same window. Read more
