Australia walked into Darwin as the world’s top-ranked Test side and left with questions everywhere. Bangladesh, playing its first Test in Australia since 2003, didn’t just win. They controlled the match from start to finish, beating the hosts by nine wickets.
Australia was bowled out for 198, then watched Bangladesh pile up 426. Cameron Green’s fighting century in the second innings offered hope, but a target of just 57 was never going to be enough. Bangladesh chased it comfortably to seal their first Test victory on Australian soil.
What makes the defeat sting more is that Australia was close to full strength. Their experienced batting order struggled, while a veteran bowling attack couldn’t force a comeback. Pat Cummins admitted Bangladesh had outplayed them.
With another Test still to come, this feels bigger than one bad game. Australia now has to decide whether Darwin exposed a temporary stumble or deeper cracks.
