Sri Lanka may have lost the Galle Test to India by 165 runs, but Sonal Dinusha gave them something to take forward. Walking in with his side under pressure, the 25-year-old showed the patience that Test cricket demands. He scored his maiden Test century in the first innings, making 100 as Sri Lanka recovered from 90 for 5, then followed it with a fighting 84 in the second innings.
Head coach Gary Kirsten was impressed by Dinusha’s mindset and willingness to bat for long periods. In a format where Sri Lanka is searching for young players, Dinusha’s two innings felt bigger than the numbers. The result went India’s way, but Sri Lanka may have found a player for the future.
